Thanatos-The Majesty's Gift

Lately my great friend and amazing artist has been creating more art to show off her story NuError.
It inspired me to actually draw my ideas, and expand on my own original story that I am some what making myself. This novel/comic idea is called "The Majesty's Gift." This is a story about how an Earth (or Earth if you are so inclined), where in Humanity's future, a giant black hole like anomaly appears in the sky. Out comes a man with angelic wings, pink hair, and a smile that lures you in.

"Hello humans, I am the King of Demons, and would like to live with you again." The man claimed.

Son enough his claims were confirmed, and for a while a strained and fearful peace was held. Then after a few decades, humans began to notice a change. Some humans through evolution and change were able to "borrow" powers from the demons without a ritual. This caused a major strain between humans and demons. This eventually caused a huge war. It was between the"Humans" who often called themselves Naturals and the Demons. This war lasted for many decades until the King of Demons used a mysterious force to wipe many lives and regimes down. After that, peace was made.

From that point on the worlds were divided into many categories. On Earth, you have the Humans, the non-rebel, non violent humans, also known as the majority. Then you had the Naturals, which are a Rebel force that is still trying to ensure humans "freedom" and "purity" from Demons. Then you have the Demons, who has of course their own system of classification. Then you have "Contractors." Contractors are humans who can borrow powers from demons. They are called this, because this a give and take system, it is never free.

The peace lasted for so long, Naturals were pretty much an urban legend at the point of where "The Majesty's Gift" starts. Then during the main protagonist seemingly normal day, an attack on the city happens. The Naturals have started up again. So the protagonist and her companions are on a mission to find out who is behind it, and why the peace has been broken.

This dashing young chap is Thanatos. Thanatos is a resident of the Spirit World, one of the three worlds that reside in this story. Thanatos is a Shinigami, Death God, a Reaper or whatever your culture calls them. He was "born" not too long after the complete and final fall of the Greek and Roman empires. Once Christianity and other religions became more popular and the Greek and Roman mythology died out, his name was given to him.

"Shall I finally give you a name?" The King of Death cackled.

"I know, I'll give you one of my old names, I dub thee Thanatos," The King laughed while he paused, "Those stupid humans." And thus Thanatos was named.

Thanatos is a very close friend to the main protagonist, whose name is Eirene, and her contract demon Kaius. Thanatos is a seemingly reserved and eerie guy at first. He does not like to waste time or energy on things that will either annoy him, or just be a waste. He is also odd in the fact that he actually likes to interact with humans, if they interest him. He is also a secretly passionate man, whose anger is not to tested or encouraged.

Thanatos is also a fierce lover and insanely loyal to those he loves. The most recently and most strongly seen example is Kaius. Thanatos loves to tease his man, although at first he is half-heartedly rejected. He accepts everything about the young Demon Prince, and would do anything to protect him. He is also very loyal to Eirene. He values friendship and is part of the key to Eirene, Kaius and Sasha's future and solving the mystery of the story

Thanatos's design was inspired by two thing. At first it was my sister's heritage. One of my step-sisters is part of a Native American tribe. I really like tribal prints and felt that it would fit Thanatos better than the kimono design I first had for him. So the poncho shirt look and the boots were all inspired by what I had seen, when I had visited my sister's tribe, and from research.

I imagine this to be an alternative form for him. This form is seen by either children, animals, or extremely powerful people. Powerful people will only see this form for a few seconds and only the first time the see him.
I wanted him to have a form for children because it made sense to me to have a child-like form to be able to better convince them to cross over.

Thanatos has two main weapons, a typical scythe (he finds cliches amusing), and the chakram you see here. He likes the ring blade because it can cut while defending and being on the offense. He only use dthe scythe if he lost the chakram, or while in his child form, to show he is a reaper but not be as intimidating. Now the scythe is in Sasha's hands for reasons not yet to be revealed.

I drew the sketch on traditional media, then outlined it and colored it on Paint Tool Sai with my Wacom Manga tablet
